Mahesh Ghattamaneni was born to a prominent Tamil film actor Krishna Ghattamaneni and Indira Devi. He is the younger brother of actor turned producer Ramesh Babu Ghattamaneni. He also has two elder sisters; one is Priyadarshini and the other Manjula Swaroop also known as Manjula, a film producer and actress in Telugu cinema. He married actress Namrata Shirodkar in 2005 and has 2 children Gautam Krishna (born on 31 August 2006) and Sitara (born on 20 July 2012).

Mahesh Babu is the brand ambassador of Heal A Child Foundation, a Non-Profit Organization that pays medical expenses for poor & critically ill children. He also donates about 30% of his income to charity and doesn’t like to publicize it.

He attended Padma St. Bede's School in Chennai and graduated from Loyola College with an Honours Degree in Commerce.

Career

Mahesh Babu started his acting career at the age of four by playing a small role in his brother Ramesh Babu's film, Needa (1979). Later he did many movies as child actor such as Poratam , Sankharavam , Bazaar Rowdy , Mugguru Kodukulu .

Mahesh made his debut as a lead actor with the movie Raja Kumarudu (1999) directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and co-starring Priety Zinta. The film was a block buster and bestowed him the prefix “Prince”.
