FAQs

What is a semi-automatic washing machine?

A semi-automatic washing machine is a home appliance that washes and spin-dries clothes with some manual effort. It comes with two tubs — one for washing clothes and the other for spin drying. While a semi-automatic washing machine significantly reduces the effort required to wash clothes by hand, it requires you to move clothes from the wash tub to the spin tub. You'll also have to fill the machine with water using a pipe connected to a tap and drain the water manually using the drain selector.

Is a semi-automatic washing machine worth investing in?

A semi-automatic washing machine is ideal for homes with irregular water supply or low water pressure. It lets you have control over water usage and is worth investing in if you're looking for an affordable and water-efficient option to do your laundry. While some manual intervention is necessary, many Indian homes prefer semi-automatic washing machines because of their lower purchase cost and operating expenses.

Is a semi-automatic washing machine better for Indian homes or a fully automatic washing machine?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Both semi-automatic and fully automatic washing machines have their own advantages. Choose a semi-automatic washing machine if you live in an area with inconsistent water supply or low water pressure. It is a better option for those seeking an economical option that conserves water and power. A fully automatic washing machine, on the other hand, is better suited if you are willing to pay a higher upfront cost for the convenience of completing the entire washing process at the touch of a button with minimal user intervention. Ultimately, the best washing machine is the one that fits your daily routine, budget, and water supply conditions in your area.

What factors should be considered before buying a semi-automatic washing machine?

When buying a semi-automatic washing machine, prioritize a model with a BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) 5-star rating to help reduce electricity consumption over time. A rust-proof body is another important feature to look for. If you plan to move the washing machine around your bathroom or balcony, choose a model with castor wheels for easy mobility. Also, look for a powerful wash motor that delivers a long motor warranty. For example, INTEX semi-automatic washing machines come with a 5-year wash motor warranty, so you can enjoy dependable performance for years to come.
Finally, choose the right capacity based on your family's laundry needs. A 6.0-7.0 kg washing machine is ideal for small families, couples, or students and working professionals living away from home. A 7.5-8.5 kg model suits medium-sized families, while a 9.0 kg or larger model is best for large families or those who regularly wash bulky items such as blankets and bedsheets.

Which semi-automatic washing machine is best?

There is no single best semi-automatic washing machine. It is the one that fits your household's needs and your budget. When you go to purchase a semi-automatic machine, instead of getting tempted by the most expensive model or the one with the most features, choose one that offers reliable cleaning performance, matches your laundry volume, and fits your budget.

Which semi-automatic washing machine capacity is ideal for a family of 4 in India?

Washing machine capacity is measured in kilograms (kg), which represents the weight of the dry clothes the machine can effectively wash per cycle. In India, factors like daily washing habits, uniform changes for school/office, and bulky winter blankets change the capacity requirement. For a family of 4 in India, a semi-automatic washing machine with a capacity of 7-8 kg would be ideal. This capacity will be able to handle the daily washing needs of a family, including school and office uniforms, as well as bulky winter blankets.

Which semi-automatic washing machine is best for areas with low water pressure?

If you live in an area with low water pressure, choose a washing machine with manual water filling. Semi-automatic washing machines are best as they do not depend on continuous water supply to function. When buying one, look for features that can improve your washing experience. For example, the Water Level Adjuster/Indicator in INTEX semi-automatic washing machines can help you customize the water level based on the amount of clothes being washed, ensuring efficient use of water. The Dual Waterfall Technology allows water to flow in multiple directions, reaching all areas of the drum and ensuring thorough cleaning. Also, castor wheels make it easy for you to move the machine closer to different water sources if needed.

Which is the best semi-automatic washing machine under ₹15,000?

The best semi-automatic washing machine under ₹15,000 is one that offers the right balance of capacity, performance, durability, and energy efficiency. Look for features such as a BEE 5-star rating, a long wash motor warranty, a rust-proof body, and your ideal capacity.

How to clean a semi-automatic washing machine at home?

To clean a semi-automatic washing machine, fill the empty wash tub with water and run a short wash cycle, then drain the water while the pulsator is rotating to flush out dirt. Clean the lint filter under running water, wipe the spin tub with a damp cloth, and let it air dry with the lid open. Finally, wipe the exterior, clean the detergent box and drain pipe, and leave both lids open for about an hour to prevent odours and moisture buildup.
